Microsoft for all its many faults is very good at listening to customer feedback. Once you consider that their main customers are enterprise and government you begin to understand how many of their decisions get made.
- FixThisPOS 14y agoThen one wonders how this stuff persists: http://goldmanosi.blogspot.com/2012/05/visual-studio-is-it-getting-worse-as.html http://goldmanosi.blogspot.com/2012/05/visual-studio-is-it-g...
- podperson 14y ago+1. The thing to understand about Microsoft is that its customers are OEMs and Enterprise first, and end-users somewhere in the distance. That said, all this means is that VS 2012 will target the .NET runtime which will continue to run on XP.
- ryanmolden 14y agoNo, that is the C++ team blog and talks about the CRT from 2012 being made to run on XP, which it doesn't at the moment due to it taking reliance on Vista+ platform APIs. This has nothing to do with .NET.
- podperson 14y agoThanks for the correction (and good to know).
- rrreese 14y agoIts interesting to see where MS diverts from this; WP7 and Windows 8. WP7 and Windows 8 are both responses to disruption from iOS and Android. With WP7 Microsoft jettisoned compatibility with Windows Mobile phones (which had been somewhat popular in enterprise) and with Windows 8, they introduce a radically different UI.
- jorgem 14y agoAnd WP8 jetisons compatibility with WP7... http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/windowsphone/archive/2012/06/20/announcing-windows-phone-8.aspx http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/windowsphone/arch...
- reddit_clone 14y agoThey are thrashing around too much. What sort of message are they sending to the users/developers about the long term viability of any of their platforms?
