Girl without smartphone unable to join in lesson
- Suppafly 2y ago>Celeste Lewis said she felt guilty after her daughter Ava's school, Whitchurch High in Cardiff, encouraged pupils to use their phones in lessons to do things like look up locations on Google Earth. That doesn't sound like she was unable to join in, just that she didn't have her own phone. It is weird that they don't have laptops in schools in one of the biggest cities in the UK but maybe schools work differently there than the US, where they mostly seem to have laptops in most classrooms.

If (according to the article) 97% of pupils are going to have a smartphone anyway, I can see the case for not having laptops for everyone in every class by default.

Especially when the assignments are probably something like "learn what you can about x country, you can use google earth on your phone if you have one." That's not really something where a phone is required, it just adds a little something.
