- JohnFen 2y agoI know this isn't Tollbits' intent and this criticism isn't really of them. But if this is the way things are going to go, that seems pretty disastrous to me. What it effectively means is that website operators are being subjected to something that resembles extortion. The choice appears to be that whether or not you give permission for that use of your content, your content is going to be used in that way. So your choice is either you get a few pennies from a use of your content you object to, or you don't get a few pennies from a use of your content you object to. Services like this gives a bit of cover and undeserved legitimacy to the practice of AI crawlers just using what they want regardless of what the content creators wish. It makes the situation more difficult to actually resolve in a way that's fair for everyone.
