There should be some sort of legal/comp guarantees for employees that go through with something this crazy... because the ones that do are the ones that are the most desperate. I can't imagine what it must be like to do this just to be subjected to an actual layoff within the following year. Out of work in a tech wasteland, stuck with a lease/mortgage in a place no one wanted to be, kids in the middle of a school year, etc.
