I don't think we can scale either fossil fuel energy or renewable energy to several orders of magnitude (10^(2+)x). Do we even have means to extract 100x fossil fuels in the time we currently extract 1x on this planet, and does the planet have enough to sustain that pace for a meaningful time? Do we have the means to manufacture 1,000x solar panels and where do we put them, and how much climate change would that cause alone? Same for other renewables.
I think it's good to think about investing into energy at these scales, it would open a lot of exciting doors for humanity, as Kardashev described. But we are at the very start of this investment and I think we need vastly different novel technologies to think about 100x, 1,000x, 10,000x, etc.
We will probably have to do with what we've got for now.
