When they cut the teachers' wages
And I was not a teacher
I stayed quiet
When they underpaid the nurses
And I was not a nurse
I looked away
When they devalued the caregivers
And I was not a caregiver
I remained silent
Then when my own profession faced cuts
There was no one left
To stand with me
