It's hard for me as a software developer to understand how soul-destroying it is to work for someone else in this industry. I have worked as a developer for someone else's company since college, for 15 years now, and I don't know how else to describe it other than I like what I do and find it fun and stimulating. I don't think it's strictly the profession. I think either the person doesn't really like it as much as they think they do, or they work for a company that pushes them too hard and doesn't treat them well. I guess that's obvious, but in my experience at least it doesn't have to be that way.
