The last time I was in a bar in California (which, admittedly, was quite a while ago) they didn't even enforce the no smoking law because a police officer had to see you actually taking a puff or some such nonsense. Sitting at a bar with a lit cigarette in the ashtray in front of you wasn't enough probable cause apparently. Maybe things have changed in the last 20 years, dunno?
Plus, you have always been allowed to smoke in tobacco shops, modulo some restrictions, which is directly relevant to TFA.
- hightrix 2y agoWhile enforcement may not have changed, attitudes have. If someone lit a cigarette in a bar today, they would be immediately thrown out. If not by the staff, by the patrons.
