Journalists having public echo chambers is good since then the public can see what they're talking about. You're not forced to follow them though, you cam just follow something else.
And what's "hate crime" on X? Maybe you mean hate speech? Because if hating people would be a crime then I've committed several felonies today on my way to work.
X is what you make of it. I'm in the EU and use it to keep up to speed on a lot of cybersecurity topics from indie researchers and never see any "hate crimes" or whatever you mean by that. If you're only using to browse hate crimes, maybe that says something about you in particular.
- Y_Y 2y agoPresumably hate speech is a hate crime in the many jurisdictions where hate speech is criminalised.
- FirmwareBurner 2y agoIf that instance of hate speech is actually a crime in the readers jurisdiction then X has to remove it if it gets reported. Kind of how western companies have to censor Tank Man and other such things when they operate in China. But more often than not, hate speech in the west is not illegal speech according to the law, just things some readers dislike because it doesn't conform to their personal beliefs/world view (orange man bad).

- octopoc 2y agoI think gp was being sarcastic and talking about made up news, I.e. a Rabbi spray paints a swastika on his temple and reports it as a hate crime. It’s quite common because it gets you a lot of attention. But you’re right about how silly the term is.
