X is by far not as relevant in Europe then over there in the USA. Nobody in my private circle has a X account. Over here, its basically an echo chamber for journalists and other hate-crime-distriibutors.
- FirmwareBurner 2y ago>Over here, its basically an echo chamber for journalists and other hate-crime-distriibutors Journalists having public echo chambers is good since then the public can see what they're talking about. You're not forced to follow them though, you cam just follow something else. And what's "hate crime" on X? Maybe you mean hate speech? Because if hating people would be a crime then I've committed several felonies today on my way to work. X is what you make of it. I'm in the EU and use it to keep up to speed on a lot of cybersecurity topics from indie researchers and never see any "hate crimes" or whatever you mean by that. If you're only using to browse hate crimes, maybe that says something about you in particular.
- Y_Y 2y agoPresumably hate speech is a hate crime in the many jurisdictions where hate speech is criminalised.
- FirmwareBurner 2y agoIf that instance of hate speech is actually a crime in the readers jurisdiction then X has to remove it if it gets reported. Kind of how western companies have to censor Tank Man and other such things when they operate in China. But more often than not, hate speech in the west is not illegal speech according to the law, just things some readers dislike because it doesn't conform to their personal beliefs/world view (orange man bad).

- octopoc 2y agoI think gp was being sarcastic and talking about made up news, I.e. a Rabbi spray paints a swastika on his temple and reports it as a hate crime. It’s quite common because it gets you a lot of attention. But you’re right about how silly the term is.
- huhkerrf 2y agoX being an echo chamber for journalists means it's relevant whether you consume it directly or not. The conversations that the journalists are having on X today are the spin that pops up in disparate outlets tomorrow.
- rat9988 2y agoMaybe, but it doesn't have anything to do with the "45M active users".
- _fizz_buzz_ 2y agoLots of journalists have moved on also. But it really never was quite as relevant in Europe even for journalists.
- lynx23 2y agoRelevant to this discussion? So you believe there are 45M journalists in Europe? Seriously?
- huhkerrf 2y agoHuh? I never said that, clearly. What I said is that journalists use it extensively, it has an influence much beyond the numbers, as the journalists then push the topics and POVs from Twitter into their writing.
- JoachimS 2y ago"Nobody in my private circle has a X account"... anymore. From my end of EU Internet, Twitter was huge. Today in the same community, area, business it seems to have been almost totally abandoned. Some follow important users in USA, Asia that still seems to be humans.
