I don't see this as embarrassing. It's about businesses reaching customers. That's not what X is used for. I read news, I read opinions, I read governmental announcements, and I follow the discussions of all of these.
- ceejayoz 2y agoIt’s absolutely what Twitter used to be for (and their main revenue stream). And the other direction - lighting a brand on fire on Twitter used to be one of the few remaining ways to get an actual human with decision making powers involved.
- bravetraveler 2y agoThe Town Square is really the penalty box, mission achieved. Rich Guy buys site where Not Rich Guys can make problems for those like him. Runs it to the ground, proverbially. Hm.
- ukouldalvays 2y agoYou could always comment on the CEO of the respective company's linked profile. That gets their attention much faster.
- lapcat 2y ago> That's not what X is used for. I... X/Twitter is/was used for many different things. Why are you speaking for an entire service? As a business owner, I did use Twitter to reach customers.

The current iteration, Shop Spotlight: https://ads.twitter.com/shopping_manager https://ads.twitter.com/shopping_manager Second, the "Digital Markets Act" has no "you must sell products directly to consumers" requirement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Markets_Act https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Markets_Act - look at the list of "Core Platforms Services" it covers. Search engines, communications, ad networks - Twitter's absolutely in several of those categories. It's about regulating gatekeepers to the market.

- sweezyjeezy 2y agoYeah even the article says that X execs were the ones that pushed for this. Other than editorialised headlines this seems like a total win.
- netsharc 2y agoAnd if the discussion of governmental announcements is skewed one way or the other (e.g. replies going a certain way are displayed more prominently), would that not concern you? Sure it might be fine if it's skewed the way you like, but I bet frustrating when it's the other direction)...
