It actually is a real pain to put the headset on and off frequently. Much, much more so than earbuds. It's a major UX issue. I don't even really see people take off headphones in this scenario, just uncovering an ear. It would be fairly hilarious to see someone lift up one side of an AR headset to make (singular) eye contact, tho.
