Never updating within several days of anything important works well in my experience. Although the specific hardware matters as well—an Intel Macbook’s Facetime HD abomination with its out-of-tree drivers was a source of constant frustration; by contrast, the Framework’s camera (the old one, not the one released recently) has been solid enough that I don’t actually know what it is.
