Fundraise news is one of the best PR tools to go viral
The way ads are created and distributed has constantly evolved. Gone are the days when actors simply held a bottle of shampoo and endorsed it, now yield negligible ROI compared to content creators claiming they use the product every day. This shift is deeply connected to how our brains have adapted, increasingly filtering out familiar ads. One key reason for this is our decreasing attention spans and the constant desire to see something new.
What works?
Something which is very distant from reality wrapped in a layer of creativity, works exceptionally well. For example, Johnny Sins being portrayed as impotent or Rahul Dravid acting angry—these unexpected, out-of-character depictions capture attention.
However, sharing credit card details on Twitter may not work again!
During our research on Product-Led Growth (PLG), we explored how to replicate this attention-capturing phenomenon for ourselves. We spoke to multiple founders and people who have successfully navigated this space. A surprising common insight emerged: "The first spike we saw from social media came from our funding post." Eight out of ten startups reported that their biggest PR boost came from their fundraising announcement, which was often more valuable than the fundraise itself.
Similar are trends with IPO companies as IPO is one of the biggest public fundraising activities. Zomato, Swiggy, Ola and even few SME have miled enough publicity out of IPOs.
The idea of fundraising still carries novelty, especially given the low survival rates of startups. When a startup announces a fundraise, it feels like something "distant from reality wrapped in creativity," and it tends to work flawlessly.
However, during our conversations with multiple founders, we encountered two personas: founders who capitalize on funding news and those who believe in being patient, waiting to attract attention through their product alone. Ideally, the former approach is more effective. Distribution is king, and anything that drives distribution is a kingmaker.
