Only if you don't have a principled way of rebuilding them all on an update/patch. NixOS doesn't have multiple versions of shared libraries in most cases, and where it does it is usually multiple upstream supported major versions or the same upstream version with different compile time options. The former can be treated as separate packages like in other distros, the latter still only requires updates in one place.
