The worst part about this sad status quo is as games are removed from sale they will probably never be able to be lawfully obtained again because the IP ownership fragments and gets lost through descendants and bankruptcies and acquisitions. Meanwhile the people who bought them are told they only have “licenses” that can’t be transferred or bequeathed. It will all just disappear forever within a few decades.
