I don’t think search monopoly is an important issue. The main issue Google is a monopoly for multiple levels of the stack. A good internet search engine would deprioritize low quality stuff like ad-infested clones of Wikipedia, stackoverflow, and similar SEO generated or AI generated web sites. Google won’t do that because it would affect their income from online ads. They have a similar conflict of interest for web browsers. I use Samsung web browser on my phone which asked me “would you like to enable the ad blocker?” on the first launch. Google won’t do that in Chrome despite end users would love the feature.
