Soprano isn’t really “very high”, it’s just the higher of the two ranges of women’s voice types. There’s soprano and mezzo soprano. Those are the two broad types for women. Within soprano and mezzo soprano there are subtypes, like lyric soprano, coloratura soprano, contralto, etc. (There’s a lot of detail I’m eliding here. This is not just about pure range, but about what kind of sound you can get in specific ranges using certain techniques. Also note that this classification is specific to opera and does not translate to singing in other styles or singing.) I’ve heard statistics that most women are sopranos. It’s just that most don’t have voice training. Likewise… and this may surprise you… I’ve heard statistics that most men are probably tenors. Like, 80%.
