There should be a law similar to the Australian Consumer Law for warranties that enforces ongoing support and security updates for products purchased that need to be usable for a 'reasonably expected period'. This would be based upon the time period that a normal person would reasonably expect a particular product to be useful for. It would stop businesses releasing products and then abandoning them after a short period of time unless they are willing to provide refunds if they do.
