Many years ago I skim-studied a couple webdev books after trying to choose useful ones. The deeper I looked, the nuttier they seemed, which later I realized was due to bandwagon bias. Bias of any kind is of course hard to subtract, but seems a particularly strong problem for new coders looking for learning resources.
