This seems very bad, but what will the actual long term effects of it be? Does this mean lots of important people will soon be blackmailed by China? How would we ever know? (It could explain some of the behavior of congresscritters.) Does it mean security keys and passwords were compromised across the board? Does China now own US infrastructure? Did they install their own backdoors everywhere? Maybe we're in a mutually assured destruction scenario, it's been known the US has been penetrating foreign network infrastructure to preposition malware for a long time. The US might be a lot more vulnerable though with more infrastructure networked. And what is the fix? Turn off CALEA associated systems? What will that impact? Tracking down everything that might have been compromised seems like it will take a very long time.
