You can just link the related story directly in the comment without a separate post that's the link. The only thing the two separate submission do is potentially start two separate discussions that would then need to be merged.

My intent in making a separate post for the past article was to put the past article on equal ground with the current article, since the aspects that the authors focused on were contiguous rather than overlapping.
