Would You Pay $1 for 4,400 Font Files?
- dark-star 2y agoso what does "I collected font files" really mean? What license are they under? Are the people who created them (assuming you didn't create them yourself since you "collected" them) okay with you profiting off of their hard work?
- Finnucane 2y agoOr maybe not-so-hard work? With no information about the sources, or what's in there, there's no way to know if it's even worth a dollar. It might be just a bunch of crap.
- dark-star 2y agotrue, but still, selling things that others have made available (presumably) for free just feels wrong I guess
- shakhawat001 2y agoYeah. You guys are right. And no, these fonts are not created by me. Most of the fonts you can find in there are free fonts and you can download it one by one. I use these fonts everyday for my design works so those are up to date. My goal is not to sell them for profit. I think this will just allow you to search for a modern font and find it in your library so that you don't need to spend extra time. I will hardly make profit to be honest. For hosting the file I am using Cloudflaers R2 bucket and it's not free. I could just share it by something like Google Drive but their file zipping time will kill the whole purpose. I don't think this is for everyone though. It's for some who thinks that 5 min of my time is more valuable than $1 , if that person works with typography a lot. I don't know what I am trying to do is illegal or not, It's like searching 1000 thing and put it in one place. I am open for others opinion.
- dark-star 2y agoIANAL, but it's almost certainly not legal, since you are distributing things that you have no legal right to distribute (in most cases... some fonts of course might be in the public domain or give you similar rights but usually the fact that you can download something on website X does not automatically imply that you can download it and re-distribute it on another website Y) OTOH, does anyone care? I guess probably not. I mean unless you got the fonts from Adobe or MonoType or a similar high-profile font foundry or reseller, I am pretty sure that you would not get into any legal trouble. You might get some mails from people who want you to remote their fonts, but that's probably about it.
- shakhawat001 2y agoThank you for the advice. I appreciate it.
- JTyQZSnP3cQGa8B 2y agoYou created more than 4000 fonts?
- shakhawat001 2y agoNone of them are created by me
- JTyQZSnP3cQGa8B 2y agoSo… what you’re doing is very much illegal?
- shakhawat001 2y agoMaybe, I actually don't know much. You can check it out: https://font.batinstudio.com/ https://font.batinstudio.com/
