I think it is right that people don't care and there is some merit to it. Reading, or listening to podcast, these days is more akin to a meditation - many people do it to reenforce an identity rather than to expand on themselves. And I do think that is reasonable as, for many people, there are few other structures that can keep them in check with themselves.
