My father bought a TRS-80 Model I in 1978. It was the computer I first connected to a BBS with and learned to program on. I also learned the basics of electronics and how to solder assembling a LNW system expansion for it. My father bought the bare LNW PCB and we scoured local hamfests for the parts. It was always an exciting day when the latest issue of 80 Micro appeared in the mail.
It was replaced for me when I received a C64 for Christmas 1983 and 80 Micro by Compute! Gazette and The Transactor. The TRS-80 was finally relegated to a closet when my father bought an IBM PC XT in 1984.
