Hours ago – many Facebook Rescue groups removed
Just over 48 hours ago multiple rescue Facebook group communities were removed. These groups had not broken policy and they were not notified. We believe that AI detected something and removed a lot automatically.
In some instances profiles of prominent rescue people and their moderators were also removed or have been suspended.
I own one of these groups and we all need help!
The groups are communities of people that support the care of small animals and while I know of at least 8 groups in guinea pig communities, we are hearing it has happened to other groups that care for rabbits, fish and even squirrels.
Once the groups are removed you can't access them but the owners/admins can. I can see my group and even now the stats in the group say it is healthy and fine - yet it was removed.
FB instructs you to lodge an 'appeal' however there is no option for this. I have sent emails to appeasl@fb.com and platformc@support.facebook.com and nothing has come back.
The on screen information from FB says that if appeals are not done within 30 days then the removals will be permanent. This deadline will be 25th October.
These groups are global. Some of us are on other social media platforms raising awareness, but outside of these these seems to be little help.
Groups affected right now are :
Guinea pig cavy savvy Community – help and advice
Guinea pigs Australia community
Guinea pig advice and support
Guinea pig cage ideas
Ashtead Guinea Pig Rescue UK
Wheekers
Everything Guinea pig UK
If there is anyone connected with FB that could please look into this we would be grateful. The groups tend to have 10K upwards memberships.
If anyone is here that is from Facebook please look into this urgently.
If AI has done this, and we know FB is heavily AI driven then this is a scary prospect given there is limited human common sense behind these decisions.
Thank you

- NotrightAI 2y agoHi I was not sure how to do a screen shot so I have put 3 images in this drive which you can access. It says there are multiple violations, yet we have not been contacted about, or had anything mentioned, and the groups stats say it was completely healthy. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GxeX8n6rSbh0LQ6CLQZmpLFXBgIXATAr?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GxeX8n6rSbh0LQ6CLQZm... I hope you can help. Thanks Lyn
- smcin 2y agoOP can you post a followup? (I don't have any personal connection to FB or Groups. Hoping you got this looked into. I didn't see any other groups reporting this happening.)
- NotrightAI 2y agoHI No we have had no success from FB as yet. We have submitted the Report form to them. There are at least 10 other groups that have issues and one person a few days ago spoke to the ABC. I am going to follow up with some media, but literally trying to get in touch with someone at FB to look at this is a huge issue. Saskia runs the LA guinea pig rescue in Los Angeles and she lost her group, Guinea Pig Australia that are here in Sydney also lost theirs. So there are many of us frantically trying to reach out and not getting anywhere with this issue. If you can think of any way to help please let me know Thanks Lyn
- rolph 2y agostop mentioning animals and develop a culture that uses proxy items in place of animals, such as napkins, silver ware, and to be a bit risky post a pic of chuzzle the GP [guineapig] approving the items.
- GuineaPig1980 2y agoIt has nothing to do with mentioning animals. I am one of the affected Admins(for the group Wheekers). We were all accused of 'fraud and deception'. What does that have to do with mentioning animals? Guinea Pig owners come to us for advice when they can't get to a vet(middle of the night, weekend and vet is closed). So maybe realise this situation has zero to do with animals and has more to do with Facebook just being controlling aholes?
- NotrightAI 2y agoTotally agree. We have submitted the report form and heard nothing back. Have you even had a response? I know that a lot of you lost profiles as well. It is a nightmare. These are community groups and have done nothing wrong.
- GuineaPig1980 2y agoMyself and the other Admins all asked for reviews(I found out that not all banned creators and admins were given that option). But we were told our review was unsuccessful and that we could not ask for another review, that we could only take fb to court. What we have found out is, that every one was accused of the same thing, which was 'fraud and deception'. Some people who have been affected by this, have found an email address to contact fb, but not heard a response. I reached out to the media in my local area and state about it, but have not heard anything back yet. I am thinking about reaching out to my local member's, as Queensland has a state election coming up in the next few weeks. Thankfully, our mods didn't lose their accounts and can keep us posted on what is being said on fb. We created a Whatsapp group for the banned fb Admins to keep in contact and we chat daily on there.
