If not, it is all bullshit. First, there is no "your engineers". Nobody is yours, they are all individuals that care way more about their own life than your project and that won't change. Make it visible how they also benefit from "pushing it harder" and your team might work more than expected. But who is to say that the problem is that your team is understaffed? You seem clueless and looking for some hacks to exploit people more. By your tone you seem like a PITA to work with so if you are the CEO your best bet would be to remove yourself from the equation totally. Otherwise, wherever you go... you will be around, and "your engineers" won't be motivated.
