- punkpeye 2y agoIt happened within seconds of me posting it. so does it mean that someone flagged my entire domain as dead?
- punkpeye 2y agoThis would explain why none of my latest posts got any engagement, which sucks. I've put a lot effort into them.
- LinuxBender 2y agoBest thing to do for a definitive answer would be to email Daniel (dang) hn@ycombinator.com It might be a day or two to get a response. There are too many possibilities for anyone here to guess.
- punkpeye 2y agoSent a brief, polite message asking for Daniel's input. Thank you
- pvg 2y agoIt's very likely because it's the only thing you're posting, the system treats that kind of posting as potentially spammy. You can post your own stuff of course but the purpose of the site is curiosity and interestingness rather than promotion so if your behaviour looks promo-ish, your submissions will typically do less well.
- punkpeye 2y agoMy angle has been to use Glama's blog as a sort of diary of interesting findings while working on the product, rather than promoting any parts of the product. I understand the logic behind why a restriction such as this one would be imposed, but I still find it odd limitation as it appears to be based purely on the domain name being shared rather than the content being shared.
- pvg 2y agoIt's not really so much about the 'promotion' as such but the sameyness and repetition. There's lots of mod comments explaining this but a very stripped down explanation is that posting the same/related stuff over and over is repetitive and boring which is the opposite of the aim of HN. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=curiosity%20repetition%20by:dang https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&so...
- PaulHoule 2y agoPeople who post links to their own blog repeatedly frequently have that problem. If you posted links from a range of different sources you'd have no problem posting links to your blog but the system thinks you're a spammer if you only post links to your own blog. Go into your profile and turn on the "showdead" option and you'll get some insight into the moderation process. A lot of posts go to [dead] immediately.
- punkpeye 2y agoLearned something new about HN today. Never noticed those settings. Thanks!
