Many of the local librarians are trans. Telling a child they may be something they’re not is an incredibly confusing message. My kids often say they’re animals. They’re not. They’re kids, so they play pretend. I personally know parents telling their kids that they are the wrong gender. The kids are 3-6. It’s child abuse.

And I don't think that the linked book even goes that far. "Some kids feel this way" is very different to "you feel this way" and 16-17 year olds are normally smart enough to tell the difference. > I personally know parents telling their kids that they are the wrong gender. That sounds awful. Although to be frank I wonder if you're also making this sound worse than is actually the case. Either way I'm not sure it's relevant.
