Cool, was just about to start a search of projects like this. Does anyone know of any other similar projects (besides Active Widgets)?

- jon_wu 14y agoI've been looking for something like this for a while to provide copy / paste address book import functionality from Excel or any spreadsheet program. Google Apps script was interesting because you could do complex rules like adding validation but I don't think it's really designed to be dropped in to your site to be used by anonymous users and having Google Spreadsheets as a dependency isn't ideal. However, for simple input this looks great. What else is out there? I saw the projects listed on this project's github but those weren't the same - just start editing and pasting.
- crandles 14y agoDatatables with the jEditable plugin. Datatables - http://datatables.net/ jEditable - http://www.appelsiini.net/projects/jeditable How to integrate - http://datatables.net/release-datatables/examples/api/editable.html
- theallan 14y agoDataTables ( http://datatables.net http://datatables.net ) has some overlapping functionality, some of which is provided by plug-ins. For example KeyTable + Editor: http://editor.datatables.net/tutorials/keytable http://editor.datatables.net/tutorials/keytable . *Disclaimer - I am the author of DataTables.
- k3n 14y agoDataTables is what we're phasing out in favor of SlickGrid (most likely); it simply croaks when you have 1000's of rows...too many DOM objects in the browser. Of course, the paged option might alleviate that somewhat, but requirements won't let me use that.
- theallan 14y agoHave you taken a look at the deferred rendering and/or Scroller options for DataTables ( http://tinyurl.com/cr5usea http://tinyurl.com/cr5usea and http://datatables.net/extras/scroller/ http://datatables.net/extras/scroller/ )? These can provide a significant speed increase - depending on your data source for the table and how you want to configure the table.
- k3n 14y agoNo, but I will now. Thanks!
- mahmud 14y agoDataTables is the best single purpose javascript library I have ever used, and I used a ton. I love it.
- paulfitz 14y agoThere is also Dan Bricklin's socialcalc https://github.com/DanBricklin/socialcalc https://github.com/DanBricklin/socialcalc which has some relatively active forks including audreyt's ethercalc https://github.com/audreyt/ethercalc https://github.com/audreyt/ethercalc You can see what the spreadsheets look like at http://www.ethercalc.org/ http://www.ethercalc.org/ For just viewing and editing spreadsheets without social features, you can ignore the servers included, the javascript widget works just fine by itself. Dan Bricklin co-authored VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet program for the masses.
