I worked 3x12 in grad school. It was the most productive i have ever been. Relaxing is actually kinda critical for solving nontrivial and complex problems. The desire to return to 3x12 is one of my biggest motivations i consider when contemplating becoming a contractor instead of a fulltime SWE.
