It bonkers isnt it!
Do none of Apple's developer team use any other editor at anytime other than XCode! How was this not picked up in beta testing!?
Here's another gripe:
The tiling feature maddens me!
You cant disable it completely or remap the key bindings.
Did anyone at Apple even test this using a full size Magic Keyboard?
Using the FN key to move windows is fine when the key is down next to the Control key. Which it isnt on the full size keyboard.
And I assume the developers at Apple use the big Magic Keyboard?
So did anyone of them even think for a minute about how useless it is to bind the window tiling feature to the FN key?
Plus, you can't fully disable Sequoia's tiling, so it interferes with my 3rd party tiling tool :-/
- chris37879 2y agoTo answer your questions, no, they do not use an editor that isn't Xcode. And I would also suspect none of them use desktop macs daily and instead use macbooks.
- firecall 2y agoBut surely they must tether their MacBooks to external displays and desktop Mouse’s and Keyboards! I didn’t think they’d be using Mac minis, Studios or Pros as such. They can’t all be using the little mini Magic Keyboard or working directly on their laptops? Can they…. :-O
- petre 2y agoThe MacBook keyboard is atrocious. I always mess up the passwords a bunch of times.
- aequitas 2y agoNot a developer at Apple, but I've been using Magic Keyboard's (without numpad) for about ten years now exactly because it has the same layout as every Macbook I own(ed). If they were to ever make a numpad version with the fn key at the same place I probably wouldn't switch either because I would just be trying to hit the numpad when I'm on the laptop's keyboard.
- tambourine_man 2y agoAre you sure you can't remap the keyboard shortcuts? I believe you can change them in System Settings -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts
- firecall 2y agoAFAICT You are able to remap the 'Globe' key to another key, say CAPSLOCK. But you can't remap the key combinations assigned to the new Tiling feature!
- tambourine_man 2y agoI think they’re on the windows menu. If so, I believe you can. I’m staying away from Sequoia for awhile though, so I can’t test it.
- firecall 2y agoHow about that, so they are! I didn't think to look there LOL Thanks for the heads up, you've made my day!

- tpmoney 2y agoYou can enter new keyboard shortcuts to replace the existing ones in Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> App Shortcuts -> All Apps (or just the specific ones if you only want it in certain apps). Just be sure to use the full menu item path. So your menu item should be `Window->Move & Resize->(Left|Right|Top|Bottom|etc)`. I had to close out of the shortcuts dialog and switch to another app for it to take, but it works.
- crooked-v 2y agoYeah, this is one of the old things going way back. Native apps never offer remapping of anything because they don't have to; as long as something has a menu item entry you can change the shortcuts at the system level.
- albertopv 2y agoUsers are beta testers, and always have been.
