About 0.5% of people were diagnosed with Autism before 1990: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4113600/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4113600/ If we're making assumptions, statistically, we'd probably want to assume the other way.
