Looks like a detonation of some small amount of potent explosive; no char, no flame. Batteries burn. Snowden has made and deleted tweets this morning about "I hope it was a supply chain attack; the alternative is unthinkable"... It sounds like he wants to imply, as TFA does, that any device with a lithium battery might be vulnerable to remote detonation. I seriously doubt this is the case; having someone sell these folks "customized" communications gear seems like a much easier approach. Having said that, I expect the media frenzy over phone bombs to consume everyone's attention for the next few days.
