The actual answer to your question, besides the fact that all of us SDEs consider ourselves exceptional at our jobs, is that there are a lot of people whose immigration status depends on their job. They can’t strike. For that and other reasons, Amazon knows they can do what they want. I would love for labor to get a win, but it’s easy for me to say since I don’t work at Amazon.
