One of their linked articles is also about being unable to open a tesla from the outside (also with a child trapped inside) because the battery died. Not to mention the articles when someone dies because they couldn't get the door open after a crash.
It's just mind boggling to me how this problem came to exist at all. It just seems insane to me that basic safety features like door handles need passengers to be briefed (if they can actually open the doors by themselves which these kids - or unconscious people - couldn't), or whatever happened here and the other article where the battery was dead and they couldn't open it from the outside. Tesla has got me wondering all sorts of things like 'do we need to legislate functional door handles on cars?' (...or perhaps legislating that wipers, headlights, hazard lights, and other critical safety equipment must have physical controls and not be primarily touch screen controlled).
For me it's simple; I will never get in a tesla, no legislation needed. I just don't think people should need safety briefings, manuals, software, or power to be able to open car doors, call me old fashioned.

- rsynnott 2y agoFrom that second incident: > As for Sanchez and her Tesla, she says she’s a fan of the brand, but told AZ Family that this latest episode has shaken her faith. This is really taking the "I love my Tesla but..." meme to absurd new heights.
- magnetowasright 2y agoOh my god, I love my tesla but it nearly killed my children because the doors don't open lol Can you imagine if these incidents happened in ICE cars from the same manufacturer? In my extremely biased opinion I think there would be recalls out the wazoo and comparisons to the ford pinto with how idiotic the design was to prioritise some (not particularly effective) aesthetics nonsense over safe and simple bloody door handles.
