Ask HN: Why not ask students to write entire novels with the help of AI?

For example, an English assignment could require students to come up with a plot outline and then use AI to write an entire novel based on their outline.

You want to mark those?

You can use AI to do that.

If you're not joking right now, then I don't think you understand the point of English class or perhaps even education as a whole.

What's the lesson being taught? If it's how to use AI, then sure. If it's how to write, then I'm not sure what value AI brings.

Students are already using it, but if they overuse the crutch, it's their own education they lose out on... It's like asking why not have musicians write with Suno. Well, sure they can, but then they don't get to use their own creativity and improve their skills.
