A picture of Earth through time
- robertclaus 2y agoIt feels like everyone should be required to watch these events as part of being a global citizen.
- pierrec 2y agoLink to a working version of the project: https://earthengine.google.com/timelapse/ https://earthengine.google.com/timelapse/ The submitted article is a bit random, it's from 2013 and primarily links to a version of the project that doesn't work anymore (as far as I can tell). The Google+ links also really make you feel the passage of time.
- throwaway888abc 2y agoThanks! Didn;t know. I can't edit, but please someone who can please update the link with the link from pierrec
- _annum 2y agoThank you for linking to this – before noticing the date, I was initially disappointed to see the gifs were merely canonical examples and assumed the project was new/minor or abandoned. As caretakers of the most comprehensive world database, Google is in a unique position to enrich the global commons. Projects like these are a universal humanitarian gift. It's unfortunate that such benevolent endeavours exist in the shadow of the irresponsible and widespread degradation of search result quality (with unknown second-order effects on public consciousness) and the panoptical Adsense surveillance super vortex.
