The original, lean Winamp was a fabulous piece of software--I can't think of many other products I've used that made me so happy, or seemed so much like magic.

The original, lean Winamp was a fabulous piece of software--I can't think of many other products I've used that made me so happy, or seemed so much like magic. I still remember feeling awed by the idea that your computer could play, and Winamp was the face of the revolution, managing somehow to seem both nerdy and hip. I stopped using Winamp a bit after the acquisition, so I really enjoyed the article - it filled in a lot of gaps for me. I guess now I know why it started sucking, eventually. Thanks to Frankel and the rest of the team for their hard work - what a cool time and place to be alive.
