A few years ago I worked with some fellow artist to design a rubiks cube around a large steel ball bearing using OpenSCAD. We machined the pieces out of aluminum (using a sweet 5-axis mill) and glued magnets into them. https://vimeo.com/322284709 https://vimeo.com/322284709
