Is the College Startup Pipe Dream Dead?
- BobbyTables2 2y agoWhat’s strange is that Amazon and Microsoft tried to be successful companies in their own, with a real product, and a real business plan. Such seems unheard these days. Most startups just make smoke and polish their mirrors long enough to get acquired. The founders and investors are focused on the exit…. They do not want it to remain an independent company.
- jschveibinz 2y agoThere never were many successful college startups in the first place, and here's why: successful businesses are started by people who have domain experience and expertise along with some business/economics training. These folks also have life experience and the financial wherewithal to take a risk at no salary income for some period of time. And, perhaps most importantly, they have a big network of colleagues who can help with partnerships and introductions. In college, you should learn about entrepreneurship and get excited about a future in business. But coming right out of school, you need to spend some time in the trenches and learn how things work.
