I’m planning a side project starting in October 2024, and it’s a big one. I have ambitious goals for it. Are there any recommended tools to help open-source projects stay focused and avoid distractions, especially when the initial phase could take over six months? I’m familiar with GitHub’s tools but would like to know about other best practices in this situation. Especially on project planning and other stuff.
- wahnfrieden 2y agoI like Apple Notes for planning

- dcuthbertson 2y agoYou might want to look at Coping Strategies for the Serial Project Hoarder [0]. It's a blog post by Simon Willison who maintains a lot of projects. Even if you have only one, I think his strategies apply well to making progress regardless of whether you can work on your project everyday, or only once every couple of weekends. That page also made it to HN in 2022 [1].
