Revisiting: Why Scrum Is the Wrong Way to Build Software
- proc0 2y agoI disagree, but I guess it depends on the org and the product. Ideally, engineers are not worried about the product at all, and are focusing on creating it and doing the engineering. Let's consider whether product owners should make engineering decisions. Of course this doesn't happen because typically product owners don't have the expertise, so I think the same applies in the other direction, except instead of technical knowledge is more contextual knowledge about the users and business needs. Having engineers worry about business needs takes away from focusing on the solution and can lead to many issues in the future. I'm a believer in optimizing roles based on what they do best. Engineers should focus on creating not only the best code but also leveraging all the tools in software to allow for faster development, faster testing, etc., meanwhile product owners should have leadership skills to make sure the direction is clear.
