It turned out to be entirely correct, as evident by your nonsensical (and cliche NIMBY) retort that the housing crisis is driven by “everyone think[ing] they have a right to move to California.” I’m not sure how you would also expect anyone to engage with this “argument,” as it’s not an argument of any substance but an unfalsifiable supposition about countless people’s motivations, that only exists with the confines of some just world fallacy. It’s also entirely tautological- the people who own homes in California deserve to own homes in California because they own homes in California while the people who don’t do not.
- Brian_K_White 2y agoNo part of california is my back yard, and I have no particular objection to any developments in my actual (figurative) back yard. There is no way to apply nimby to me. I haven't said anything that depends on being falsifiable, unless you can say that Californias "housing crisis" is the result of the children of preexisting Californian residents, and/or that California does not allow any building anywhere. But you can't say either of this things. If there are too many people in California, most of them are immigrants, and being unable to build housing in a particular place while being able to a few miles away is not a crisis, it's just something some people want, and I don't see how they have any special right to get what they want. You can argue those points, but accusing me of nimbyism is not such an argument. It's just namecalling.
- bugglebeetle 2y ago“I have no idea what I’m talking about with regard to the state of impediments to residential construction in the state of California, so am instead choosing to scapegoat a fictional set of demanding ‘immigrants,’ which happens to also be a common NIMBY retort, but I am not a NIMBY because that’s name calling. Instead, I just have a wild set of misconceptions about reality that are unique to me” is the position you’re staking out. You could instead begin with the fact of how insane it is that 95% of residential land in California is zoned single-family: https://belonging.berkeley.edu/single-family-zoning-california-statewide-analysis https://belonging.berkeley.edu/single-family-zoning-californ... But why let that get in the way of all those immigrant monsters hiding in your closet?
