Hyphanet is a private peer-to-peer platform for publishing and communication
- Tomte 2y ago"The original Freenet." I had forgotten about that. How was the new Freenet different?
- TiredOfLife 2y agoIt's some kind of paid blockchain/crypto thing
- sanity 2y agoThis is inaccurate, Freenet has very little to do with blockchain/cryptocurrency and it's not "paid" - it's 100% open source like previous versions of Freenet. You may be thinking of "ghost keys" which aren't strictly part of the new Freenet but are complementary to it. You can find out more about ghost keys here: https://freenet.org/news/introducing-ghost-keys/ https://freenet.org/news/introducing-ghost-keys/

- femto 2y agoFreenet's FAQ explains which name applies to what and who is working on what. Basically Ian Clarke (Freenet's founder) started a new project called Locutus, whilst the original codebase/architecture continued under the Freenet name. At a later date, Locutus changed its name to Freenet, whilst the original Freenet changed its name to Hyphanet. Summary: If today you want to go with the original Freenet code/architecture, use Hyphanet. If today you want to go with the original Freenet founder, use Freenet. https://freenet.org/faq/#what-is-the-projects-history https://freenet.org/faq/#what-is-the-projects-history
- Bluestein 2y agoMay I ask - if you know - what the merits of one vs. the other are? Or, is there a comparison somewhere?

- OutOfHere 2y agoWhy is https://github.com/hyphanet/fred https://github.com/hyphanet/fred linking to the "next" branch which is still the Java version? Where is the code for the new Rust version?
- sanity 2y agoThat's here: https://github.com/freenet/freenet-core https://github.com/freenet/freenet-core Anything under "hyphanet" belongs to the old Java version, see https://freenet.org/ https://freenet.org/ for the new version.
