- aguaviva 2y agoBecause he knows she's the presumptive winner this point, so he has no other choice. Funnily enough, Dick Cheney has just come out on her side as well. Spiritual comrades, we might call these two.

- aguaviva 2y agoThe first two are betting markets, and hence can be safely discounted. As to what Nate really says: Let’s cut to the chase: So, who’s gonna win the election? Well, honestly, we don’t know. https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2024-president-election-polls-model https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2024-president-elec... There've been similar oscillations in his model in previous, so that's why he cautions us not to make too much of what his model says this particular week. I base my assessment on a variety of factors. You make your bets, I'll make mine.

- mdhb 2y agoWhat a breathtakingly naive thing to say. Just for some additional context. https://x.com/OAlexanderDK/status/1832314334514483549 https://x.com/OAlexanderDK/status/1832314334514483549
- ggm 2y agoThe word "influencer" pretty much sums up the problem. Not to deny they exist, nor that they exert influence, nor that they could be anywhere along a spectrum from useful idiots to willing participants. The root problem to me remains the fantasy of free speech in the channels who have and assert IPR and editorial rights by contract and then refuse to use them. Asserting the right to own and control but not controlling does in effect take a side, protestations of neutrality not withstanding. In part because there is a number of false moral equivalences on the table. Constantly having to refer to Musk's statements to free speech and the difference between what he says and does is tiresome. Suffice to say he constrains content when it suits him, and at request of governments when it suits him. Banning tiktok is not the answer.
- Dig1t 2y agoIsn’t basically every country doing this? I know for sure China does, Israel definitely does, the US does. Especially during all the wars the US has engaged in, pushing a positive narrative and image has been very important.

- bediger4000 2y agoThat seems immaterial to me, as a US citizen, taxpayer and voter. Call me a hypocrite, but I'd like this to absolutely not happen, and I'm in favor of law enforcement and diplomatic efforts to stop and prevent this, and to punish people who do it.

- bediger4000 2y agoWhich influencers? Do these influencers have any common ideology or bias? Sure would be interesting to know which partisan group has been funded this way.
