How are they threatening world peace ?
I travel a lot and I'm yet to meet a South American, an Asian or an Arab who considers Russia a threat to their peace.
- mopsi 2y agoUkraine is a major global producer of grain. Russian attacks on Ukrainian Black Sea ports and grain storage facilities disrupted normal trade and contributed to food crises all over the world. Western air defense systems currently protect Ukrainian ports and NATO warships from Bulgaria and Romania sweep Ukrainian shipping lanes to keep them open and protect international commercial vessels carrying Ukrainian grain, but few people are even aware of the link between Russian attacks and rising food prices, because most people get their information from the social media, where cheap sensational anti-American trash like Area 51 and 9/11 conspiracy theories dominate over high quality information. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_Grain_Initiative https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_Grain_Initiative https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_food_crises_(2022%E2%80%93present) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_food_crises_(2022%E2%80%...
- dralley 2y agoBecause at the same time as they're invading Ukraine and conducting clandestine attacks across Europe, they're also cultivating a relationship with North Korea and Iran, and encouraging them to pick fights while the US and NATO are distracted.
- homebrewer 2y agoI think you ignored the spirit of Prbeek's question. I live in one of the countries that belong to the "global south", and have a very different perspective, along with most of my countrymen, because what that Kremlin asshat is doing is not unique to Russia in the slightest. I hope one day you (not personally you) learn to respect that and remember that the world is much bigger than a few Western countries. Let's leave it at that.
- immibis 2y agoRussia is the one doing it to the West right now, so it's their (a westerner's) biggest problem.
- tmottabr 2y agoAnd westerners country have done it to both Russia and pretty much to the entire world for decades.. They are only tasting a bit of their own medicine..
- llamaimperative 2y agoDone what exactly? Can you describe that medicine?
- tmottabr 2y agoharassing other countries, starting wars, etc.. Russia is doing it now to westerners countries the same way westerners countries have done to the entire world.. Lets not pretend the last two world wars and significant portion of local wars were not started by westerners countries after all..
- llamaimperative 2y agoAnd I suppose by your logic, the wars that were not started by western countries prove that all those non-western countries are just as bad as the western ones? Seems like your heuristic is "engaged in war => equal & bad", which I believe would describe every modern nationstate.
- tmottabr 2y agoThat is not at all what i am saying.. What i am saying is that westerners countries act like the world is ending because Russia is doing those things, that Russia is the big bad and that everyone should be scared.. But when they did to the rest of the world it was just business.. It was just pointing out the hypocrisy of westerners countries.. When they do it, it is ok, when others do it, it is a problem.. Most of the global south think westerners countries overall all are all big bad as much as Russia is.. The point that was made in this thread was that everyone should be worried about Russia doing this things while the response was the question on why should the global south be worried about it? Specially when what Russia is doing is not news to us, we being trough all that time and time again.. Now, to be clear, i don't disagree that Russia is the big bad right now, but westerners countries are not any better.. And to be extra clear, i understand we do face consequences for stuff that Russia is doing to Ukraine, but the same way we face consequences of what westerners countries do all over the world.. So for us this is just another day dealing with the crap the world trough at us.. It would be good if Russia behavior taught westerners countries to not do those things and their behavior changed in the future but that is wishful thinking, we know that will not happen any time soon..
- KoolKat23 2y agoThat's far from true, yes the layman on the street may hold that opinion due to a lack of insight or due to undue focus on short term selfish interest. But diplomatically, where geopolitics actually matter, this is not the case. They are indeed concerned. Specifically concerned for the erosion of rule of law (international law), which implicitly can lead to war. https://press.un.org/en/2022/ga12458.doc.htm https://press.un.org/en/2022/ga12458.doc.htm
- mensetmanusman 2y agoTheir TikTok is geofenced to ignore the war.
