ASML equipment uses technology developed in US Department of Energy labs (and paid for by the US taxpayer). The license agreement says that the US government is allowed to veto their customers if the US government doesn’t like them. They didn’t used to get involved much, but they are now. I completely understand the frustration ASML is experiencing, but that’s what they agreed to. They could perhaps use some of their profits to develop tech that eliminates the need for the US licensing.
