I'm hopeful VR programming with standardized programming languages and AI will create a Dynamicland-like software environment one day. Social spatial programming just needs to be made fun like building in a game.
- jdboyd 2y agoWhy VR instead of projectors?
- koolala 2y agoHehe because VR is unlimited. It's only recently the resolution of VR displays is even good enough for text. The final need is comfort. I'm currently trying to figure out a efficient text rendering algorithm designed for 3D.
- rtkwe 2y agoVR comes with the person using it instead of needing many projectors to cover a room at sufficient resolution to display text. There are an open projects that is trying to recreate Dynamicland and their numbers are 50-200 per square foot of covered area between the cameras, projectors and compute required. It doesn't take much space to make equipping multiple people with VR with good pass through competitively priced.
- koolala 2y agoI'm most excited for collaborative software spaces to be online in virtual space as well as with pass-through VR AR. Would make programming online with people so much more fun and homey!
- Philpax 2y agoHave you seen Resonite? That's probably the closest to that today.
- koolala 2y agoYes, I am a big Anyland fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g50f6Sjle5o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g50f6Sjle5o The goal to me is standard programming languges of all kinds. Lisp VR, Js VR, C VR, LogiX ect. Wasm is almost a polyglot. How we interact with Text and Code Execution is expandable in my mind.
