I would be interested in knowing how they achieved these improvements.
To me the main contributing factors to power efficiency are the architecture, very complex on x86, and the manufacturing process, which has hit a miniaturization wall.
All the low hanging fruits have long been taken on x86. How did they achieve this?
- ywvcbk 2y agoSwitching to TSMC might be a part of it. > To me the main contributing factors to power efficiency are the architecture Also is this really true?
- klooney 2y agoI wonder if they'll ever switch back to their own fabs, or if this is the end for them.
- rbanffy 2y agoOf course they will. Maybe not switch products that already run on other processes, but new products will use their own capabilities - vertical integration can offer them some advantages - they can still have secret sauces TSMC can't offer.

- dialup_sounds 2y agoThey're using TSMC's fabs and putting the system RAM on-package, the same things that Qualcomm and Apple have done.
